Locating the Right Tree

Our club was looking for a special project and decided to look for a unique tree.  Club Vice President, Joel Rainey discussed various options and in early March, the group met for a field trip to Evergreen Garden Works located in Kelseyville, Ca.

Nursery owner, Brent Walston took the group on a tour of green houses and gardens.  His trees are well cared for and he tends to all the trees’ needs at the appropriate time and season.  The proper soil, pot size, fertilizer, water, and and sun and frost protection are all included in his care. His trees vary in age from seedling to 25 years in age. 

After much discussion and collaboration among the members, the right tree was chosen.  The tree, a Juniper Precumbens Nana, is one of Walston’s first trees grown on this property.

Joel agreed to take the tree home and care for it until Julian Tsai, a Professional Bonsai artist, arrives in Chico for a workshop in early February 2025.
