Downsizing the Bench: Leo Opens His Collection

Leo’s need for elbow room is an opportunity for the rest of us. He’s putting a wide variety of healthy, local material up for grabs—ranging from $40 to $300.

What’s on the Benches

Leo Martinez has a classic lineup of deciduous classics, broadleaf tough guys, a handful of conifers, and other interesting material that thrives in our climate. If you’ve been looking for a new project, Leo is offering an extensive selection of trees, pots, and display gear directly to fellow enthusiasts.

The Trees

Leo has a wide variety of healthy material up for grabs, including classics that do exceptionally well in our heat:

  • Cedar Elm: Native to Texas, these trees are rock stars for our local climate. They handle the summer sun effortlessly and make fantastic bonsai. This project could use early fall thinning to set up a vigorous 2027.

  • Chunky Cork Bark Oak: A fun styling project with a ton of character. It has a great, thick trunk, but rangy branches. The move here would be to completely remove its current branches and start fresh to build brand new structure.

  • Trident Maples: Leo has several really nice, strong Trident Maples available, including this one:

  • Sweetheart Ivy: Perfect if you’re looking to style a smaller, unique accent tree or need a companion plant for display.

Pots, Stands, and Accessories

Leo also has a solid lineup of pots, stands, and accessories. If you're preparing for our upcoming fall show, it’s worth taking a look at the display equipment he'll have out.

How to Browse & Buy

Leo will have trees available for purchase, following the club meeting on Sunday, August 9, 2026 and is only a few minutes away from Casa de Flores. Build some extra time into your day and plan on visiting Leo after the meeting.

All other viewings are done by appointment.

  • To Schedule: Text Leo (916-549-4018) to set up a time to drop by and take a look.

  • Payment: Cash or check only.
