It is with great pleasure that I introduce you to the guest speaker, Gianluca Bacci, who will be the guest speaker coming from Sonoma California to speak to our Chico Bonsai Society. We
would like anyone interested in Succulents to attend. He is well known for his expertise in cultivating plants and has given many lectures on the subject to botanical institutions and societies over the last few years.
Gianluca's interest in entymology began at an early age and upon his meeting a professor at U.C. Berkeley, he was advised to study plants before he pursued the study of entymology. From that conversation and a visit to well known plant store in Berkeley, Ca. called, The Cactus Jungle, he began on a different career path.
Gianluca has traveled extensively including a trip to Socotra which is off the coast of Somalia.
He went with fellow botanists to study native succulent species. Socotra is an island , and is very difficult to get to. They stayed a month. There was no electricity and camping was with absolutely no amenities.
While attending U.C. Davis, Gianluca, spent three years managing and caring for the xeric plant collection at the Botanical Conservatory. He now runs a wholesale nursery in Sonoma County with two partners specializing in the production of rare and unusual plant species for the horticultural trade.
We are looking forward to his presentation and hope to see you there.
