Meet Ryker Rozenboom - A new member of Chico Bonsai Society

It was a chance meeting at a small plant shop here in Chico that Ryker & his friend, happened to meet Leo and Teresa Martinez.  After some discussion, they made an appointment to visit Leo at his home and view Leo’s bonsai collection.  Leo invited the group to attend one of our meetings.

I was happy to meet with Ryker and learn about how his keen interest in plants began.  Ryker is from Portland, Oregon where he claims they have amazing weather to grow bonsai trees. He showed an interest in plants from a young age as his father was already growing and planting things himself.  It was at home with his father that the seeds were planted, creating in him the passion for plants that he now enjoys.

Ryker is majoring kinesiology at CSUC and has chosen to reside where he can continue to grow plants. He lives in an apartment and uses his balcony and extra closet to accommodate his growing collection.

His main interest is in the succulent family.  He collects and propagates dwarf jade plants known at Portulacaria.
